- Happy Anniversary Billie Joe & Adrienne
By: Jimmy On: 02 Jul 2009 Comment: 4 |
From all of us over at 1039SweetChildren we would like to wish Billie Joe and Adrienne a very happy 15th anniversary today!Billie Joe first met Adrienne in her home town at the time, Mankato, MN at a show that he played with Green Day. It did not happen instantly but on the second or third time they had talked to each other they became pretty good friends. Lets not write a summery of their marriage here though! Let me get right to the point. In the town of Mankato, MN they have been working extremely hard to get Green Day to go back and play another show there. One girl named Amanda Dyslin, who is the editor and arts journalist at The Free Press in Mankato, was the one who started the, "Campaign: Green Day", has worked extremely hard to get into contact with Adrienne Armstrong and she did! You can now read her full interview with Adrienne at the Mankato Free Press' website by clicking here. You can also take a step back and see all of the work that has went into this campaign by taking a read of her blog by clicking here! |

- 'American Idiot' -- The Musical?
By: Kevin On: 29 Mar 2009 Comment: 0 |
|
A new musical production adapted from “American Idiot" is scheduled to make its debut in September at the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California. The musical is a collaboration between Green Day and Michael Mayer, the Tony Award-winning director of “Spring Awakening.” Berkeley Rep is to announce Monday that the new work, also titled “American Idiot,” will have its premiere as the first production of the theater’s 2009-10 season, and run from Sept. 4 through Oct. 11. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense,” Mr. Armstrong, the Green Day singer and guitarist, said of this new partnership in a telephone interview, “but that’s what I love about it. When people see it, it’s going to be my wildest dream.” For now the creative team is tight lipped about how, exactly, it will translate the libretto of “American Idiot” into a narrative. As Mr. Armstrong admitted, “It’s not the most linear story in the world.” But Mr. Mayer said, “If you read it a certain way, you can pull out a multiplicity of voices.” He hinted that a triumvirate of characters referred to elliptically in the album’s lyrics, with names like Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy and Whatshername, would likely emerge as the central characters. All told, he said, the ensemble would include 19 performers playing characters in their early 20s, though no casting has been announced. Maybe Green Day has even surpassed one of their inspirations, the Clash, a band that never saw its ambitious albums turned into stage shows. In response, Billie Joe said, "“I guess maybe we’re a bit more fruity than the Clash." Via the NY Times. |

- Hilights From Last Nights Interview
By: Jimmy On: 20 Mar 2009 Comment: 0 |
Here are some of the main things that where in the John Roecker interview last night with DJRossstar for those of you who were able to watch it or missed it."John Roecker was an incredible guest to have on my show and his stories about Green Day were truly special ... especially because they had never been told before. (Who knew BJA loved Dolly Parton so much!?) As a gift, Roecker gave me the actual pic Mike Dirnt used while recording "Wake Me Up When September Ends," the actual pic Billie Joe used while recording "Whatsername" and one of the four American Idiot pins Billie Joe wore on his guitar strap when recording the entire record. Here are the two most important things to take from the interview: The Network WILL have a new record out. It will either be called Omega 3000, or something else, but Omega 3000 is one of the song titles. He wasn't joking about this ... I asked him after the show ended. Billie Joe performs a song in HTAHG that was left off of AI. He actually performs it twice in the movie. Once on piano ... and once on guitar. DJ Rossstar" Also the video of lastnight will be posted up later on DJRossstars StickAM page later today. |

By: Jimmy On: 03 Mar 2009 Comment: 1 |
Green Day may just have a new touring guitarist to help out Jason White. Like last tour how on some songs like St. Jimmy Billie went guitar-less and another guitarist named Mike Pelino to help Jason White. This information was posted on arktimes.com and has not yet been confirmed by the band but it looks quite legit. Well quit my random talking the possible new guitarist name is Jeff Matika. He is the longtime guitarist for the Magic Cropdusters and Ashtray Babyhead. Along with the article it says that in May Green Day will be playing on "Later with Jools Holland in London" and "Saturday Night Live" Hopefully soon we will have some conformation on this. - New Song Teaser!
By: Kevin On: 10 Feb 2009 Comment: 3 |
|
Check out Green Day.com for a brief teaser of a brand new Green Day song off of 21st Century Breakdown. The clips sounds like an intro to a song, which I'm guessing is the title track "21st Century Breakdown" since AP Magazine reported that the song starts "almost as a lullaby". In the preview, there is some radio tuning sounds followed by Billie singing, "Sing us the song of the century". This falls into a tight acoustic rhythm. Can't wait to hear more! You can also download the preview here (right click > save target/link as...)! |

- More info on the 'Breakdown'
By: Kevin On: 09 Feb 2009 Comment: 0 |
|
Green Day is on the verge of a 21st Century Breakdown. The band's eighth album, due in May, doesn't retreat from the seething invective of 2004's Bush-whacking American Idiot, which sold 5.8 million copies and transformed the Bay Area trio from punk brats to serious rockers.
After Idiot's success, "we asked how much more ambitious can we be?" says singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong. "We could take a sideways step or go back to our roots. We chose to move forward." Expected to be one of 2009's blockbusters (bolstered by a summer tour), Breakdown addresses working-class struggles, internal demons, apathy and the fading American dream. "It's about reflecting what's been happening the past three years and putting it to melody with some bold statements." The boldest may be March of the Dogs, which rails against religious hypocrisy. "I have nothing against religion," Armstrong says. "It's about preying on people's blind faith. I'm all for spirituality. There's nothing more spiritual than rock 'n' roll." |

- Where You Can Watch The Grammys / More
By: Jimmy On: 07 Feb 2009 Comment: 8 |
I have been getting a lot of e-mails the past two days about where the Grammys will be shown on TV and such. Unfortunately the only place (that I know of) that the Grammys will be shown live is at 8:00pm EST Sunday on CBS. If you live on the west coast you will have a two hour delay because they will start playing it there at 8:00pm PST.If you live in England they will be showing the Grammys on Monday at 9:00pm on ITV2. At this time there is no live online feed of the Grammys but, who knows that could change. Over on Grammy.com there is a feed that will show the "non-televised" part of the Grammys. That will start at 4:00pm EST and 1:00pm PST. I am not sure how much that will show but who knows. Click here to go to stream. The good news is that I live on the east coast and I will be recording the show so we should be one of the first sites to have the video up for you. Also as pictures of Green Day come in they will be uploaded to our gallery for the 2009 Grammys. Click here to go to that. As of now of corse there is no photos but keep refreshing that during (and after) the Grammys because that is where I will upload all of the photos. I will also update this during the day today if I find out about any other places where you can watch the Grammys live. EDIT: You can watch the Red Carpet starting at 5:00pm EST on E! |

We just got sent in the new Alternative Press Magazine scans and all that I can say is "WOW". This article really takes you through every thing that Green Day has been doing since American Idiot. We get some great info on how the album is really coming along.According to Billie Joe, "It is really amazing how much you can get done when you don't tell anyone about it". Billie says that in the article and it really is true. We now know that the new untitled album will have at least two parts to it. Act 1: Hero's and Cons. And Act 2: Charlatans and Saints. We even get some song names to go along. Act 1: Hero's and Cons -21st Century Breakdown -Know Your Enemy -VIVA La Gloria -Before the Lobotomy -Christians Inferno -Last Night on Earth Act 2: Charlatans and Saints -March of the Dogs Act 3: Horseshoes and Handgrenades -(We know no songs from here yet) There is a detailed description of each song on page six. There will also be more songs of Act 2 but Alt Press wasn't allowed to listen to them. Alt Press also reports that Green Day has been working on the album since early 2006. Also it says that the rumor of Billie Joe writing 45 songs all on the piano isn't true. Below are the scans so make sure to read through them! Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4 | Page 5 | Page 6 | Page 7 I will be adding the killer new pics to the photo gallery soon! |

- Billie Writes about Bono
By: Jimmy On: 13 Nov 2008 Comment: 0 |
Bono of U2 was placed at #32 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers. Billie Joe wrote a little article about him that you can read below:"I would describe Bono's singing as 50 percent Guinness, 10 percent cigarettes — and the rest is religion. He's a physical singer, like the leader of a gospel choir, and he gets lost in the melodic moment. He goes to a place outside himself, especially in front of an audience, when he hits those high notes. That's where his real power comes from — the pure, unadulterated Bono. He talks about things he believes in, whether it's world economics or AIDS relief in Africa. But the voice always comes first. That's where his conviction lies. He has so many
influences. You hear Joe Strummer, Bob Marley, Otis Redding, Elvis
Presley, even John Lennon. And he has the same range as Robert
Plant. It's amazing, the notes he has to go through in the first
lines of "Sunday Bloody Sunday." But it's filtered through this
Irish choirboy. The Joshua Tree shows the mastery Bono has
over his A lot of Bono's free-form singing comes from the band's rhythms and the church-bell feeling of the Edge's playing, the way the guitar sings in that delay. Bono can glide vocally through all of that. But it's very natural. And he's not afraid to go beyond what he's capable of, into something bizarre like his falsetto in "Lemon." In "Kite," on All That You Can't Leave Behind, he belts it out like he's crying with joy. I never had the feeling he was manipulating the power of his voice to show off. They say a submarine never goes in reverse. That's Bono, always looking for a new way of singing something. That's one thing I learned from him: Never rest. Keep learning and be a good listener. That's the spirit of singing — and he definitely has it." Via: GDA |

Ty Vaughn of the band Broadway Calls is quoted complementing Green Day here: "Billie Joe has been a huge inspiration to me since I was 12 years old. He’s an amazing songwriter and performer. So when we found out that Adeline wanted to release our record, it was a huge moment. We have the same manager and booking agent as Green Day. Sometimes I think about that and just shake my head in disbelief.” Read the full article here. Over on NME.com you can vote Billie Joe as "Greatest Ever Frontperson". Click here to vote. - Top 5 Singles of The 90's
By: Jimmy On: 01 Oct 2008 Comment: 0 |
![]() "Sure, Green Day's big breakout may have spawned the giant influx of pop punk bands that still plagues radio and MTV to this day, but damn if "Longview" didn't do it best. While Beck's "Loser" was considered the anthem of the slacker generation, "Longview" was a call to arms. Or hands as it were. Nothing captured the spirit of doing absolutely nothing all day while sitting on your parents' couch like this track and nothing ever will. Iconic video as well." For a full list of songs that made the list click here. Also Good Riddance made #1 on the list. "The best performing single from the 1997 two-time platinum album Nimrod. It peaked at #2 on the U.S Modern music charts. Initially written as a break-up song but due the reminiscing attitude of the song it becomes an international hit at ceremonial social occasions. I wonder how many people had this as their high school graduation song, I know I did. But for me the meaning goes far beyond that. You know how in movies before people die there is a montage of their life memories played to a song, well this would be the soundtrack to my life's montage. Every time I hear it the eyes kinda water and I begin to think about a few special memories." |
