- A Quick Apology & Update
By: Nikki On: 17 Aug 2009 Comment: 0 |
|
Hey everyone out there in Green Day land! I hope you're all doing well and for those of you who've already got a chance to go, are loving the shows as much as I did! I figured I'd post this to let you guys know why the updates have really been lacking lately. I know for myself at least, I'm just having a lot of troubles with trying to manage my time properly and after just starting to recover from a pretty wicked round of the flu (not to mention my allergy attack right after my show.) and figuring out all my classes for school next year. I haven't had any time to finish my review yet or update. As for Kevin he just got a new job and is trying to handle managing the site and his work load. So we really both apologize and have no intention of letting the site go as it has previously, we just hope you understand and give us some time to get situated. On that note I'd just personally like to thank Jimmy for keeping up the slack while we've been away he's been a phenomenal help and without him the site probably wouldn't be getting updated what so ever. So thank you Jimmy and keep checking back, We'll be up and fully running as soon as we possibly can.

Green Day played at the on Friday at the New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, LA. The last time that Green Day had played in New Orleans was back in 2006 when Green Day teamed up with U2 to cover the song 'The Saints Are Coming' to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. ![]() Set list - The set list had the same base of songs as normal but it still had some rare songs thrown in there. The band played their cover of the Skids songs 'The Saints Are Coming'. They said that they would only play this song in New Orleans and nowhere else. Other rare songs included the song 'At The Library' which is off of Green Day's first album 1039 / Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. For the acoustic encore at this show Billie played the song 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' which has not been played all tour! The '21st Century Breakdown' Tour took over Florida for the second
night in a row. This time, the guys of Green Day were on to the
American Airlines Arena in Miami. Reviews: There aren't any official reviews on the show yet, but check back later and I'll update this post when some are made available. Sound Check: At each tour stop, a few lucky fans are selected to watch Green Day rehearse during sound check a few hours before the show. During these sound checks, the guys tend to mess around and experiment with random songs from their catalog. Yesterday in Miami, someone managed to sneak in a camera and shot some videos of "Private Ale", "Warning", and "Green Day". Click the respective song titles for the videos of each! Setlist: From what I've read from fan experiences, it sounds like the set list was pretty normal; however, there isn't a full set list available yet. Check back later and I'll post it as soon as a concert-goer shares it. Photos & Videos: Click here to browse through a bunch of videos uploaded by audience members and click here to view some photos of the show from Gigwise. |

Another audition was a medley of cover songs in the middle of the show (including "You Really Got Me Now" and more). Click here to see a video of that! the Gwinnett Center in Atlanta, Georgia for their 22nd show on the tour. Reviews: Official reviews from media junkets haven't quite made their way on the web yet, but check back and I'll rally up any that are available later and update this post. They have been rehearsing the song at sound-checks recently but brought it to the actual show for the first time last night. The guys also attempted Insomniac's "Stuart and the Avenue", but Billie Joe couldn't remember the words! Another song addition came during Billie Joe's acoustic encore at the end of the show. - '21st Century Breakdown' Tour - New York, NY #2
By: Kevin On: 29 Jul 2009 Comment: 0 |
Last night, Green Day rocked Madison Square Garden in New York City for the second night in a row. You know what they say -- the second time is always better! And how true that is.![]() Reviews: Click here to read a pretty good review from NY Magazine. They complain more about the band's evolution than talk about the concert, but take it for what it's worth. Set List: Let me start off by saying that last night's crowd was absolutely spoiled! Green Day played a 35 song set that took about 2 hours and 45 minutes. A bunch of amazing additions were made. First, after "Know Your Enemy", the guys performed "Murder City" for the first time on this tour. Other firsts in the show included "A Quick One While He's Away" (a cover of The Who) [video: part 1, part 2], a fusion of "Stop Drop and Roll!!!" (Foxboro Hot Tubs) and "Eye of the Tiger", "Going to Pasalacqua", and "Stuart and the Ave./ Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?", and "Knowledge" (Operation Ivy). During the show, they also whipped out "FOD" for the second time this tour. At the very end of the show, Billie Joe performed "Macy's Day Parade" on his acoustic guitar, but then he played another unreleased song before wrapping the show with "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)". The unreleased song was from the 'American Idiot' sessions and is called "Tell Me When It's Time to Say I Love You". Click 'Read More' to see the entire set list in order. Last night, Green Day took their '21st Century Breakdown' Tour to New York City to rock Madison Square Garden. This show was part one of their two-night-take over at MSG.![]() Reviews: As expected, Green Day's first '21stCB' show at Madison Square Garden is getting great critical reclaim. Check out these two reviews from the NY Daily News, NewsDay, and the NY Times.
Setlist: The guys are certainly keeping things interesting! A few changes to the set list have been made yet again. First of all, after being absent for a few shows, "2000 Light Years Away" was brought back tonight. For the first time during this tour, "When I Come Around" was introduced to the setlist. Before "When I Come Around", the guys tried to play "Castaway", but since Billie Joe forgot the words, it stopped early on. Also brought back tonight was "Disappearing Boy". At the show, the song was dedicated to Billie Joe's eldest son, Joey. During it, a few cover songs including "Sweet Home Alabama", "Sweet Child of Mine", "99 Bottles of Beer", and "Take Me Out to the Ball Game", and a few more were fused in there. Billie Joe came out and performed both "Drama Queen" and "Last Night On Earth" on his acoustic guitar before wrapping the show with "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)". I just got done reading this article and it talk about how the American Idiot movie (first talked about in 2004, before the record even hit stores.) Might still be a possibility. But we still have the American Idiot musical premiering in September at the Berkley Repertory Theatre in California. |

- '21st Century Breakdown' Tour - Albany, NY

Last night, Green Day brought their '21st Century Breakdown' Tour to the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. To no surprise, the show is already receiving fantastic reviews. Click here to read the first review from the Times Union. Also check out this one from the Daily Gazette.
Last night was The Bravery's last night as the opening act on the tour and they got a nice "good bye" gift from the guys of Green Day. With the help of some stage hands, male strippers, and dancing animals, their opening set was completely taken over. Equipped with the confetti machine spewing out popcorn and Ping-Pong balls onto the stage and Tre running around with a toilet paper shooting gun as the band played, the stage was chaotic. Click here and here for some hilarious videos of the takeover. There's a bunch more on YouTube. Later in the show, during the main set, The Bravery got their revenge. Not only did they come out in drag during "King For A Day" (see video here), but they also put up a "Woodstock '94" sign during the first song of the encore, "American Idiot". Billie Joe was then pelted with fake glass and mud ala the infamous "mud fight" incident at Woodstock '94. “What’s going On?” Armstrong shouted after being hoist on his own petard. “Do you know how mad I am!?” He could barely get the words out without laughing. See video of the Woodstock meets 'Idiot' incident here. Good stuff, good stuff. As far as the set list goes for night one in New York, another "old school Green Day" song was revived. The guys played "Disappearing Boy" off of '1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours' for the first time on the tour. For the second time on the tour, Billie Joe performed "Last Night On Earth" acoustic before "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)". Click here to browse through videos shot by audience members and uploaded on YouTube. |
- '21st Century Breakdown' Tour - Hartford, CT

The '21st Century Breakdown' Tour is continuing to take New England by storm. Last night, the guys of Green Day brought the show to the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.![]() The Republican, a Connecticut media outlet, gave the show a glowing review! Click here to read it.
Every few shows, the guys seem to be switching up the set list -- and a few big changes were made last night! Not only did they bring back "Hitchin' A Ride" (which has been absent the past few shows), but the band also broke out some classic Green Day favorites: "Dominated Love Slave", "Only Of You", "Christie Road", and "FOD" (click the links on each song title for excellent videos). As if those additions weren't enough, Billie Joe also came out and played an acoustic version of "Last Night On Earth" (first time the song has appeared on the tour) before ending the show with "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)". I have to say, the set list keeps getting better and better as the tour proceeds... I'm a tad jealous my show is already done with! - '21st Century Breakdown' Tour - Pittsburgh, PA
By: Kevin On: 23 Jul 2009 Comment: 0 |
Last night, Green Day rocked the house at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. Two awesome reviews from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Tribune suggest that it was yet another amazing show for the guys (no shocker there!). ![]() Differently from prior shows, the band threw out some of their older jams to the delight of the crowd. They performed their 1994 hit "JAR" as well as the opening track of 1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours "At the Library". I wish they had done those at my show! The surprises didn't stop there. At the very end of the show, Billie Joe always comes out with his acoustic guitar to close the show with "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)". Lately, he has been playing songs like "Macy's Day Parade", "Words I Might Have Ate", and even "Give Me Novacaine". Last night, however, he whipped out an unreleased song called "Drama Queen". - Experienced Green Day at the Boston Garden -- Brief Edition
By: Kevin On: 21 Jul 2009 Comment: 0 |
|
So I just got back from the Green Day concert at the TD Garden in Boston, MA and I am seriously still in awe and at a loss for words. The show was absolutely incredible and I couldn't ask for anything better (well, besides maybe a better opening act but we'll let that one slide for now). Green Day were top-notch and the energy was absolutely insane. I loved every second of Green Day's 2.5 hour set.. the time flew honestly! I was in the front row of the standing room right next to the left barricades of the catwalk and the view was fantastic. Since I'm still completely pumped from the show and not thinking completely straight (also lost my voice from singing every song but I guess that doesn't really matter since I'm typing), I'll post a full more-detailed review on the site tomorrow! But for now, here are a few shots I snapped at the show. Click to enlarge! Check back tomorrow for a full review, more pictures, and a few videos! |

- '21st Century Breakdown' Tour - Winnipeg, MAN
By: Nikki On: 10 Jul 2009 Comment: 0 |
![]() Green Day just finished playing Winnipeg, MAN a few hours ago, it seems like Billie Joe and the boys are on a roll so far with this tour. Even though it's still in its early stages they're already kicking it up a few notches. Billie Joe demanded the 7000 plus crowd to get up out of those seats! quote: "This is a (freaking) rock ‘n’ roll concert. It’s (freaking) real tonight. Get your (freaking) asses off those (freaking) seats," and on a side note it seems they're going to be adding their watergun antics back into the show, you can check out this review from Winnipeg Free Press for more information on the show. If you have any media/ reviews you'd like to send us from last night's show be sure to check out the Tour Section! |

From all of us over at 1039SweetChildren we would like to wish Billie Joe and Adrienne a very happy 15th anniversary today!Billie Joe first met Adrienne in her home town at the time, Mankato, MN at a show that he played with Green Day. It did not happen instantly but on the second or third time they had talked to each other they became pretty good friends. Lets not write a summery of their marriage here though! Let me get right to the point. In the town of Mankato, MN they have been working extremely hard to get Green Day to go back and play another show there. One girl named Amanda Dyslin, who is the editor and arts journalist at The Free Press in Mankato, was the one who started the, "Campaign: Green Day", has worked extremely hard to get into contact with Adrienne Armstrong and she did! You can now read her full interview with Adrienne at the Mankato Free Press' website by clicking here. You can also take a step back and see all of the work that has went into this campaign by taking a read of her blog by clicking here! |

Last night Green Day preformed on Late Night with David Letterman! They played East Jesus Nowhere off of 21st Century Breakdown. If you didn't already know it is a tradition of Tre Cool to get hurt or do something stupid on the show. This time after Tre stops playing at the end of the song he stands up and goes to David Letterman's desk sits down and lights a pipe and starts smoking. - 'American Idiot' -- The Musical?
By: Kevin On: 29 Mar 2009 Comment: 0 |
|
A new musical production adapted from “American Idiot" is scheduled to make its debut in September at the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California. The musical is a collaboration between Green Day and Michael Mayer, the Tony Award-winning director of “Spring Awakening.” Berkeley Rep is to announce Monday that the new work, also titled “American Idiot,” will have its premiere as the first production of the theater’s 2009-10 season, and run from Sept. 4 through Oct. 11. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense,” Mr. Armstrong, the Green Day singer and guitarist, said of this new partnership in a telephone interview, “but that’s what I love about it. When people see it, it’s going to be my wildest dream.” For now the creative team is tight lipped about how, exactly, it will translate the libretto of “American Idiot” into a narrative. As Mr. Armstrong admitted, “It’s not the most linear story in the world.” But Mr. Mayer said, “If you read it a certain way, you can pull out a multiplicity of voices.” He hinted that a triumvirate of characters referred to elliptically in the album’s lyrics, with names like Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy and Whatshername, would likely emerge as the central characters. All told, he said, the ensemble would include 19 performers playing characters in their early 20s, though no casting has been announced. Maybe Green Day has even surpassed one of their inspirations, the Clash, a band that never saw its ambitious albums turned into stage shows. In response, Billie Joe said, "“I guess maybe we’re a bit more fruity than the Clash." Via the NY Times. |
